Marquetry is an applied art form, available to all those who are passionate about wood and working with their hands.
Christina von Mohrenschildt, a professional marquetry artist and winner
of the prestigious award "Meilleur Ouvrier de France 2004", shares
her knowledge and studio with you so that you may discover the basics of
marquetry as well as her own particular style.
Jean-Emmanuel Riard, a carpenter of 30 years' experience, will share his passion
for wood with you and introduce you to marquetry through the ages.
The workshops take place in their professional marquetry studio, in Carennac,
a medieval village in the Lot department in the south-west of France.
All tools and materials necessary for a marquetry project are available to
students during the workshop session.
Your first piece of real marquetry will be finished by the end of your workshop.
Marquetry is an art which demands passion and patience, so the studio takes
only 1 or 2 trainees at a time.
Dates can be arranged in line with your availability and that of the instructors.
So you won't find yourself on a 'conveyor belt of trainees'!
* 5-day workshop, Monday to Friday, maximum 1or 2 students
850 Euros
(per student, materials and use of equipment included)
At the end of the workshop you will have the basics necessary to create a simple marquetry project on your own. After that you will improve in line with the amount of time which you devote to it; your speed and accuracy will improve little by little. As your passion and ideas grow, so will the size of your marquetry projects!
(The workshops are conducted through French)
